Why we support this project
Colodan is a great example of how environmental markets can support productive agriculture while delivering measurable outcomes for nature. Located in the Burnett Mary Catchment within the Great Barrier Reef catchment, the project protects and regenerates native vegetation in a nationally recognised biodiversity hotspot. Fourth-generation landholders have shifted from historic clearing practices to regenerative management, integrating Human-Induced Regeneration, avoided clearing and rotational grazing. More than 2,300 hectares of Eucalypt and Acacia forest are now managed alongside cattle, improving water retention, reducing runoff and enhancing animal welfare. The project demonstrates how placing the environment on the balance sheet can strengthen farm resilience while delivering benefits that extend well beyond the farm gate.
Who we work with?
This project is managed by GreenCollar, one of Australia’s largest environmental markets investor and project developers. GreenCollar partners with farmers, graziers and land managers to create high-integrity nature-based projects that place the environment on the balance sheet. Their work is science-led, grounded in practical land management, and focused on delivering lasting environmental, social and economic benefits.
Carbon Impact
Registered in 2017, this project has issued a total of 95,306 ACCUs, meaning that it has sequestered the equivalent in tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent.
Community and Biodiversity Impact
Colodan is regenerating 2,357 hectares of native forest in the Brigalow Belt South, a nationally significant biodiversity hotspot. By restoring Eucalypt and Acacia woodlands and improving ground cover, the project enhances habitat connectivity, supports native species and improves water quality flowing to the Great Barrier Reef. Colodan is certified under Accounting for Nature (AfN), where the establishment of environmental accounts is intended to support ongoing management decisions that may include management of grazing, fire, pests and weeds, forest retention and infrastructure upgrades to encourage maintenance and/or improvement in the condition and extent of native vegetation.
