Yarrowyck Environmental Planting Reforestation Project

The Yarrowyck Environmental Planting Reforestation Project is restoring close to 500-hectare of former sheep stations in NSW to permanent native forest, supporting biodiversity, wildlife corridors and long-term carbon sequestration under the ACCU Scheme.

Why support this project

The Yarrowyck Environmental Planting Reforestation Project, in the New England Tablelands of New South Wales, is re-establishing permanent, mixed-species native plantings on land that had been without forest cover for at least five years before work began.

Registered under the Australian Government's Emissions Reduction Fund in December 2021, Yarrowyck carries a 100-year permanence commitment: the carbon stored here is held for generations. The project delivered its first issuance of 9,907 ACCUs in late FY26, with growth confirmed through on-ground stem counts and infill planting where needed.

Its integrity credentials are equally strong. Both the independent auditor and the Clean Energy Regulator have confirmed the project's baseline eligibility and additionality — the property was previously run as cattle grazing land, and none of this reforestation would have happened without the project. Independent due diligence identified no outstanding issues, and media coverage to date has been consistently positive.

Yarrowyck brings together specialists at every stage of delivery. Yarrowyck Environmental Projects Pty Limited is the registered proponent and landowner, having acquired the project in early 2025. Tasman Environmental Markets (TEM) leads project development — expansion and infill design, compliance, monitoring, reporting, verification and risk management — and delivered the project's successful initial audit. Earlier phases were delivered by Covalent Land Australia. On the ground, Airseed Technologies and Sky Land Management carried out drone seeding, Stone's Forestry the hand planting, and Narromine Transplants supplied seedlings. Locally, we consult neighbouring landholders, the Rural Fire Service, and cultural burning practitioners.

Yarrowyck sits on a significant wildlife corridor linking the Gwydir River to the Northern Tablelands — and every hectare planted strengthens it. Returning 499 hectares of cleared grazing country to native mixed-species forest rebuilds habitat and reconnects fragmented landscapes for species including the Greater Glider, the Yellow-bellied Glider (an important pollinator and seed disperser), the Barking Owl, and the Eastern Grey Kangaroo.

Planting has been tailored to the landscape rather than imposed on it. Four phases combined drone seeding, rip-line and auger hand planting, and direct seeding, each matched to the terrain. A further 208 hectares of pre-existing forest, water features and tracks were deliberately excluded from the planting areas and left intact.

Beyond habitat, the plantings restore soil structure and carbon to country long cleared for agriculture, with reliable annual rainfall of 730–790 mm and permeable, well-drained soils supporting long-term growth.
