Amazon Rainforest Conservation Project

The project proponent BRCARBON SERVICOS AMBIENTAIS LTDA (brCarbon) is a Brazilian environmental services company with a portfolio of forest carbon and conservation projects. The project is implemented across 15 participating private properties, where landowners enter conservation agreements that underpin the project’s avoided deforestation outcomes.

Community Impact: The project invests carbon revenue into locally led initiatives that strengthen wellbeing and resilience for communities living in and around the project area. These initiatives include support for education and connectivity (such as school upgrades and expanded internet access), improved access to clean water and renewable energy solutions (including solar kits and water pumps), and health partnerships and campaigns delivered with local health services. Verified outcomes reported for the project’s activities include 370 people supported with access to clean water and 219 people with improved education access, with benefits reaching women and children. The project also supports sustainable livelihoods—including flour and honey production—and skills-building through training workshops that have empowered 79 people (38 of whom were women), alongside the creation of 10 local jobs over the project’s lifetime.

Environmental and Biodiversity Impact: By conserving 30,750.5 hectares of Amazon forest, the project not only protects ecologically significant habitat and safeguards biodiversity at scale but also monitors around 896 animal species (of which 346 are endemic and 29 are threatened with extinction. This contributed to the project’s CCB Gold Level biodiversity status. Beyond species protection, maintaining intact forest supports wider ecosystem services such as improved soil carbon retention, reduced fire risk, and enhanced watershed protection, helping strengthen long-term ecological resilience across the landscape.
